I got a Rhodes Piano Bass and the output was dead when it came in. So before I fixed it, I used a contact mic to sample the tone bars. Each note responded a little differently, which ended up giving the instrument a lot of character.
I love key basses because they live somewhere between a synth and an electric bass, and I use them all the time in my own productions.
