Spectro writes color tags directly to your files in macOS Finder. Open your DJ Pool folder and every track is already marked — no app to keep open, no renaming, no extra steps.
Spectro is an app that solves a specific and important problem for audiophiles and DJs: it determines whether your WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and ALAC audio files are truly lossless or compressed MP3s disguised as high-resolution.
The problem Spectro solves:
Files with .flac or .wav extensions don’t guarantee quality. Many online platforms, promo channels, and Bandcamp downloads feature MP3 files that have been converted to lossless format. While the file size increases, the audio itself remains compressed. Spectro analyzes the actual audio signal spectrum, not metadata, using a fast Fourier transform (FFT), to provide an accurate verdict.
How it works.
Using the app is extremely simple and consists of three steps:
Drag and drop files or folders into the application window. Spectro supports FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, MP3, and AAC formats. No need to import or move anything.
Get a verdict on each file. The result is displayed in real time: LOSSLESS (real quality), MEDIUM (medium), or FAKE (fake). The confidence percentage, estimated bitrate, and a brief diagnosis are also displayed.
Act based on the results. You can filter out fake files, move them to the Trash, or open the full spectrogram for detailed analysis before making a decision.
Features:
• Batch processing: The application is designed for working with large libraries. You can load from 1 to 20,000 files. Spectro processes up to 100 files simultaneously on M-series chips and groups the results by verdicts.
• Finder Integration: Spectro can automatically assign Finder color labels to files. This allows you to see “bad” files right in your folders without even opening the app.
• Playlist Import: Import from Rekordbox XML files or any M3U/M3U8 playlists (Traktor and VirtualDJ compatible). Serato support is promised in the future.
• Automatic mode (Watch Folder): You can specify any folder for Spectro. New tracks added to it will be analyzed automatically, with the option to send notifications upon completion.
